Shri Voleti Venkat Rao assumed charge as Registrar, IIT Hyderabad, with effect from 03 July 2023. He has been a permanent employee of IIT Hyderabad since 31 December 2010, and has contributed significantly to the Institute's administrative development, especially during its formative years.

Before taking over as Registrar at IITH, he served as Registrar, IIT Goa, on deputation from 07 June 2021. At IIT Hyderabad, he previously held the position of Joint Registrar, and has more than one and half decade of experience working across all administrative sections of the Institute.

Shri Venkat Rao has a total administrative experience of more than 34 years, having worked in:

• Ministry of Urban Development – more than 3+ years
• CSIR National Laboratories – over 16+ years in various administrative capacities
• IIT Goa – 2+ years as Registrar
• IIT Hyderabad – over 15+ years in various capacities

• Graduate Diploma in Materials Management (2-year regular course) – Gold Medallist, Indian Institute of Materials Management, Mumbai

Professional Contribution

With his wide-ranging administrative experience, Shri Venkat Rao has played a key role in establishing and strengthening administrative processes at IIT Hyderabad. His deep understanding of institutional functioning, combined with extensive experience across Government, CSIR Labs, and two IITs, supports efficient governance and continuous improvement in administrative systems.
