Research area: First Principles Study of Binary and Ternary Compounds

My research objectives are to explore the different classes of materials such as A-15 type and Co-based Heuslers using first-principles methods. The research work includes the electronic topological transitions under pressure, the magnetic and topological properties of Co-based Heusler compounds along with some Spintronic applications and anomalous Hall conductivity.

Research area: Thermoelectric and topological properties of materials

Aim is to explore the crystalline materials like semiconductors and semi-metals because these materials have wide applications. I mainly focus on lattice dynamics and thermal properties like lattice thermal conductivity, and the electronic structure properties and topological nature. Low lattice thermal cobnductivity in conjunction with the electronic band structure lead to applications in the thermoelectricity, which is very hot topic in the materials world nowadays. The exotic electronic properties open an another avenue called the non-trivial topological nature through specific features like band inversion and band character flipping in band spectrum.

Research area: Exploring Novel materials from first principles studies

My research work mainly focuses on the study of structural, electronic and magnetic properties of Mn-based strongly correlated systems. Major research effort is to explore magnetic materials with topological properties through band engineering (i.e by application of pressure/strain/doping effects), which has numerous applications in the field of spintronics.

Research area: Ab-initio study of layered materials

Layered materials created a new avenue in research after the isolation of graphene (2D) due to its exceptional properties and wide range of applications. This 2D confinement of electrons due to exfoliation leads to unprecedented optical and electrical properties. The wide spectrum of characteristics shown by these materials made them a potential candidate for several applications in diverse fields, like thermoelectric, optics, magnetism, superconductivity etc. The main objective is to explore novel layered materials with enhanced properties for different technological applications in both non-magnetic and magnetic domains and also to tune the physical properties by analyzing the effect of pressure/strain/dopant on both bulk and free standing layers.

Research area: Effect of Pressure on Material Properties studied from First Principles

My research interest is to analyze the materials’ properties under high pressure. The effect of pressure is more pronounced in solids and several exotic properties which are not found in ambient condition can be obtained under pressure. Pressure/strain/chemical pressure can play a vital role in tuning the physical properties such as topological properties, superconducting properties, and electronic structure properties.

Research area: Exploring Energy materials by first principles study

My research work focuses broadly on material aspects of harvesting and storing of energy from non-renewable resources. The main aim is to search for novel thermoelectric material for converting waste heat into electricity, as well as improving the performance through dimensional reduction, band engineering, doping, applying external pressure and strain. In the energy storage end, I am exploring electrode materials to achieve high voltage, capacity, energy density and diffusion study. And also I am working on optical properties of materials to get high efficiency of solar energy.

Research topic: Magnetism and Topological Materials

The new frontier of condensed matter physics, topology in conjunction with spintronics gives rise to an emergent area called topological spintronics. It mainly focuses on the topological states and the spins of magnetic materials. The major focus is on exploring the topological aspects of magnetic materials with strong electromagnetic responses at bulk and interface that are promising for the next generation of technological applications like data storage, information processing, energy conversion, etc which gets enhanced by band inversion, linear band crossings, and band anti-crossings with different topological charges and also provide an effective way to manipulate topological states and in turn, to control information technology
