Student's presented a presentation on research topics outside the course syllabus. This usually involved students reading a few journal articles and making a presentation on it. Along with the instructor, all the students assigned a score for each presentation from 1 to 10. Such a grading process encouraged all students to attentively listen to the presentation of their peers. Presentations were made on the following topics:
- Surface tension used by shore birds - a capillary rachet
- Capillary action in small jets impinging on liquid surfaces
- Contact angle measurement techniques
- Walking droplets
- Elastocapillary effects
- Humming bird's tongue is a fluid trap
- Drops and bubbles in the environment
- Cheerios effect
- Surface tension driven passive micro pumps
