This workshop on 'Magnetic Materials for MEMS-based Devices' to be held at IIT Hyderabad from March 30-April 4th, 2020 is sponsored by TEQIP-III. Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) are small machines/devices that integrate micron scale electrical and mechanical components to achieve certain engineering functions by sensing, actuating, signal processing, and operations such as motors, using electromagnetic actuations. There are different types of actuations that have been developed over the years and electrochemical, thermal and magnetic actuations are a few examples in this list. Different actuation methods have their pros and cons. Among the above mentioned actuation techniques, magnetic coupling based actuation can provide large force and offer coupling without physical contact due to the nature of the magnetic field. As the title suggests, the workshop will focus to introduce magnetic actuation based MEMS applications and the details of magnetic concepts suitable for MEMS. In addition to the talk/lectures by experts in the subject area, the experimental training will be provided by esteemed faculty members of IIT Hyderabad who are experts in MEMS and Magnetic devices.
Course objective and benefits:
This workshop is intended to offer fundamental understanding as well as hands-on training on MEMS technology and magnetic materials concepts suitable for MEMS.
