Do's and Don'ts for your internship application

After receiving tons of group/mass emails requesting internship, many of which did not even get my name correctly, I decided to put this up. I consider these emails as a SPAM. I am not sure if this webpage will help me in reducing such spam email. However, I request all the internship seeking students to kindly follow these etiquettes while applying.

Do's
  1. Decide your broad area of interest
  2. Study the webpage of the faculty you are seeking internship with
  3. Be personal in your internship application
  4. Be prepared to work hard
  5. Make best utilization of your time with your guide and his research team
  6. Be in touch with your guide, once you accept the internship
  7. After accepting internship, if you later decide to not join, inform at the earliest.
Don'ts
  1. Do not send out mass email, with salutations such as: Dear Prof./Dear Sir
  2. Do not bother those whose area of interest is not matching with your broad interest
  3. Do not expect to get a project in some area, because some work was done in the past. They might have moved on.
  4. Do not lie about your credentials
  5. Do not treat your internship as a paid vacation

I do not offer internship to 2nd year students. Please do not bother sending your applications.

If I do not see the following line in your internship application email, your application will be rejected. "I have read your page on internship application Do's and Don'ts. This is not a mass email and I am really interested in working with your research team in the _______________ area."
