From the very beginning, IIT Hyderabad has emphasized research and development. Today, R&D has become a culture among the faculty and students of IITH. This culture is evident from the fact that IITH has nearly 25 sponsored R&D projects ranging from 18 lakhs to 18 crores; and these include several international projects. In short, this is the spirit of IITH; and it all began when the first faculty joined in August 2009. There are several innovations hubs in the offing at IITH; some of these are Cyber Physical Systems, X-Materials, Nano Technology, Scientific Computing and Sensor Technology. Today IITH has more than a thousand students, approximately 600 undergraduates, 200 Masters and 200 PhD students. The institute has 90 plus faculty members spread across 11 departments. The second batch of M.Techs graduated this summer and almost all are well placed; many with blue chip companies. Some have decided to go on for their doctoral degrees.
The faculty at IITH has been publishing vigorously in leading international and national journals and referred conferences. Students, at all levels, are actively involved in research. Moreover, IITH has active collaboration with industry - some of these are - Dr. Reddy's, Tojym Steel, Delphi, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, BHEL, along with DRDO Laboratories and international industries like KDDI Japan. IITH will always strive to offer an innovative environment, to aspire to reach great heights in science and technology, and an environment where one is not afraid to experiment with high risk ideas.
IITH offers B.Tech. in 6 disciplines, M.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics, M.Tech. in 6 disciplines, and PhD in all the 11 disciplines. In order to facilitate greater interaction and collaborations with industries, IITH has introduced a very novel system of fractional credits - now one can offer courses having 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 credits. With this flexibility industry leaders and researchers can offer courses of variable duration to suit state-of-the-art subject matter. Several such courses along with one taken by honourable ex-President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam have already been introduced with great success. Many more innovations on the academic front are in the offing.
The architecture work on the permanent campus is in full swing. Innovative designs have been finalized for Phase 1, consisting of three academic departments, hostels, faculty and staff housing, a lecture hall complex and the admin building. IITH will move into its own campus in July 2013. In summer 2012, IITH had its first B.Tech. batch graduating in Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The summer of 2012 also saw graduating M.Techs in 6 engineering departments and M.Sc. graduates in Chemistry. To us, these are the pioneer batches, and the trail they blaze in the years to come, will light up IITH.
We look forward to companies coming and interviewing our graduates. We can assure that our graduate will be the best they are interviewing. We are ready to accommodate different venues for interviewing. IITH will extend all possible assistance to companies for interviewing.
