TEQIP Workshop on 11th to 16th July 2016

IIT Hyderabad is organizing one week faculty development program on “Powder Metallurgy and Advanced Composites” during July 11th to 16th, 2016; supported by TEQIP. Young Faculty members and Research Scholars of Colleges and Universities, R&D organizations and industry personnel are invited to attend this workshop

Powder Metallurgy (PM) has emerged as one of the most competitive process with considerable reduction on materials loss, minimum machining steps, lower energy consumption and cost reduction. A wide range of components with complex shapes can be produced from metals, ceramics and composites through this route. P/M components are used in automotive, aerospace, hard tools, energy sectors and bio-implants to name a few. This field offers a lot of opportunities as well as challenges to both, Academia and Industries. Therefore, there is a constant need to update them about the emerging technologies. This workshop would include an overview of the powder production techniques, shaping and compaction processes, sintering operations involving pressure less sintering, hot pressing and hot iso-static processing, etc. The major aim of this workshop is to encourage faculty and scholars to initiate research in this domain. Various specific areas which have scopes for research exploration would be introduced, such as application of dilatometer as one of the major tool for characterization and monitoring the sintering process to carry out the fundamental research; relatively newer sintering techniques such as microwave sintering and spark plasma sintering, etc. would be covered. Various new and advanced composites used for many engineering applications would also be covered.

Keeping this fact in mind, present workshop has been designed particularly for the young faculty and research scholars to familiarize them, the basic principles, and to demonstrate them the various measurement techniques. More importantly, how to analyze the as-received data, which is a key of any measurement, will also be elaborated.
